Week of 8 to 14 June 2026
On 11 June (Case C-81/24), the Court of Justice of the European Union rules that EU law precludes national legislation requiring credit institutions to refuse to open an account for a consumer solely on the ground of their listing on a third country’s sanctions list, such as the US OFAC list, an important clarification regarding the extraterritorial application of sanctions in the European banking sector.
