Publication, on 15 June 2026, on the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s case repository, of the award rendered on 22 April 2026 in the UNCLOS Annex VII arbitration Ukraine v. Russian Federation concerning the rights of the coastal State in the Black Sea, Sea of Azov and Kerch Strait (PCA No. 2017-06): a finding that Russia breached Articles 205-206 (environmental impact assessments) and its duty to cooperate (Articles 123, 192, 194) in relation to the Kerch Bridge; dismissal of Ukraine’s claims regarding navigation in the strait (the Sea of Azov’s status as internal waters recognised, the transit passage regime excluded) and underwater cultural heritage.
