Estimate the fees of an arbitration before the Paris Maritime Arbitration Chamber (CAMP), each party’s deposit and the cost of a second-degree arbitration.
- CAMP scale of 16 June 2022
- First or second degree
- Amounts excluding or including VAT
Arbitration fees
Above EUR 7,500,000, the scale sets a fixed part of EUR 81,600; the variable part is decided by the President. The amount shown is therefore a minimum.
| € | Excl. VAT | Incl. VAT |
|---|
Scale amounts exclude VAT; VAT at the current rate is added on the final invoice. The parties are jointly and severally liable for all the fees, whatever split the award decides.
Deposit and scenarios
Each party deposits half of the scale within thirty days. If the case settles, the fees are reduced.
Payment made with the claim
Payment on account of EUR 2,000 excl. VAT, made with any claim, even a protective one. The Chamber keeps it if the claim is not pursued in time.
Each party’s deposit, 50%
Due within thirty days, plus VAT.
Settlement before the first meeting
Each party pays 50% of 40% of the scale.
Settlement after the meeting is called
Each party pays 50% of 80% of the scale.
Second degree
The CAMP scale, band by band
| Amount of the claims (EUR) | Fixed part (3 arbitrators) | Rate on the part within the band |
|---|
Fees = fixed part of the band + rate × (amount − band threshold). Sole arbitrator: 60% of the scale; for claims below EUR 15,000, EUR 1,650 up to EUR 7,500 and EUR 2,450 above.

What the estimate leaves out
- Expert fees and, for hearings outside the Paris region, travel costs.
- Cases the President may handle very exceptionally, such as protective claims and multi-party arbitrations.
- Your own counsel costs.
Reading the result
A continuous scale. Fees consist of a fixed part for each band and a variable part computed on the share of the claims falling within the band. They are based on the total of the claims, including subsidiary claims and counterclaims, when the tribunal is constituted, plus any new claims.
Sole arbitrator. Fees are limited to 60% of the scale, fixed and variable parts. The urgent procedure runs before a sole arbitrator, with an award within forty-five days.
Second degree. It is available where the main claim exceeds EUR 30,000. The appellant deposits a sum equal to the total first-degree deposit, on a three-arbitrator basis.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an arbitration before the Paris Maritime Arbitration Chamber cost?
For claims of EUR 250,000 and a three-member tribunal, the scale gives EUR 20,600 excluding VAT, i.e. a deposit of EUR 10,300 per party. Before a sole arbitrator, 60% of that amount.
Who pays the CAMP fees?
Each party, or group of parties, deposits half of the scale. The parties remain jointly and severally liable for all the fees, whatever split the award decides.
What happens if the case settles?
If the settlement comes before the first adversarial meeting, each party pays half of 40% of the scale; after the meeting is called, half of 80%. A withdrawal before memorials are exchanged costs EUR 2,000 for opening the file.
Can a CAMP award be challenged?
It cannot be appealed before the state courts, but an action to set it aside remains available under the French Code of Civil Procedure. The Rules also provide for a second-degree arbitration.
Do the amounts include VAT?
No. The scale excludes VAT; VAT at the current rate is added on the final invoice. The calculator can show amounts with 20% VAT.
