Week of 23 to 29 March 2026
On 25 March, the European Commission announces that Lille will host the new European Union Customs Authority. On 26 March, the Council and the European Parliament formally agree on the reform of the EU customs union: creation of a central customs data platform, removal of the €150 exemption threshold for small consignments (replaced by a temporary flat-rate duty of €3 per 4-digit tariff category from 1 July 2026), and the designation of online sales platforms as deemed importers responsible for customs compliance.
